Iran has struck a desalination plant and a power station in Kuwait — FT
The Iranian Armed Forces launched an attack on strategic targets in Kuwait, striking a power plant and a desalination facility.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Energy officially reported the incident, according to The Financial Times.
A worker, an Indian citizen, was killed in the attack. Intensive work is currently underway at the sites of the strikes to repair the damage, and specialists are working to keep the facilities operational in emergency mode.
A spokesperson for the ministry noted that the stability of the country’s life-support systems is currently under threat.
“The stability of the power and water supply systems remains the top priority,” the Kuwaiti Ministry of Energy emphasized.
This attack marks the second such incident in the Persian Gulf region since the start of large-scale hostilities.
The day before, a reservoir in southwestern Iran was hit by a similar strike, indicating a deliberate attempt to destroy the region’s resource base.
Experts warn that Gulf countries are critically dependent on desalinated water, so such actions by Iran are evidence of maximum escalation.
International organizations, including the WHO, are already preparing for worst-case scenarios, including the risks of a nuclear disaster.
As a reminder, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the country would respond harshly in the event of attacks on its infrastructure or economy.
Iran has also responded to the U.S. 15-point plan.
