Iran dismissed Trump's peace initiatives

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has officially stated that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iran’s full control and will not be opened to shipping. Tehran has called U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements about peace in exchange for opening the strait “nonsensical theatrics” and a political show aimed at a domestic audience.

This was reported by the Financial Times.

The Iranian response came immediately after Trump’s public address, in which he claimed that the Iranian president had personally requested a ceasefire. The American leader emphasized that Washington would not consider a truce until the strait was unblocked. In response, the IRGC effectively refuted Trump’s claims, making it clear that the country’s military leadership has no intention of yielding ground in exchange for American conditions.

The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz continues to provoke instability in the global energy market, which, according to analysts’ estimates, is generating billions in windfall profits for Russia. While the U.S. insists on free navigation, Iran is using its control over the waterway as its main lever of pressure in the conflict. The situation in the region remains critical, as both sides show no willingness to compromise, which only heightens the threat of further escalation and an economic shock for oil-importing countries.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had received a request from the new leader of the Iranian regime asking for a ceasefire. Trump is willing to consider such a possibility only on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz is fully opened for the free and safe passage of ships.

As a reminder, the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and is threatening a “harsh response” to ships.

The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
