Unarmed Iranian frigate "Dena" on a diplomatic mission was destroyed by the US during the Indian Navy parade
The Iranian frigate "Dena", which was participating in a diplomatic mission during a naval parade in India involving over 70 countries, including some NATO members, was destroyed by the United States. According to parade protocols, ships were not permitted to carry ammunition. The US had planned to join the parade but decided at the last moment to torpedo the Iranian vessel instead.
After attacking the unarmed ship, the US refused to rescue the crew, resulting in the deaths of sailors. The Sri Lankan Navy recovered 87 bodies previously reported missing. Although the US could have captured the vessel intact, they chose to destroy it and subsequently declared a "great victory".
This incident could have serious diplomatic repercussions and escalate tensions in the region, as the attack targeted an unarmed ship on a peaceful mission.
