Spain condemned Israel's strikes on Lebanon as a violation of international law

The Spanish government has strongly criticized Israel's actions following the shelling of bridges and residential buildings in Lebanon.

Sky News reports this.

Official Madrid called these attacks a gross and deliberate violation of international humanitarian law, emphasizing that strikes on civilian infrastructure are unacceptable. The statement was released on March 23, 2026, after the Israeli Defense Ministry announced the expansion of its list of military targets to include all bridges across the Litani River.

The Spanish side emphasized that, in accordance with international norms, residential buildings and medical facilities cannot under any circumstances be considered legitimate targets for attack. The country’s government categorically rejected any attempts to isolate or divide Lebanon territorially, noting that such actions lead to the deaths of innocent civilians. This diplomatic response came amid reports from Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Israel’s intention to continue operations against “Hezbollah” and Iranian programs.

At the same time, the situation in the Middle East remains part of a broader global instability, which includes Russia’s massive attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and cyber interference in European institutions. While Spain appeals to humanitarian principles, leaders of other countries are focusing on degrading the military capabilities of the Iranian regime, which supports terrorist groups. Madrid has called on the international community to ensure compliance with fundamental principles of law to protect the civilian population in the conflict zone.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated after speaking with Trump that the U.S. president sees an opportunity to turn his significant military achievements into a deal with Iran. But Israel will continue its strikes on targets in Lebanon and Iran.

Israel’s military leadership has ordered the immediate destruction of all bridges across the Litani River and the accelerated demolition of buildings in border villages in southern Lebanon.
