Spain is set to be hit by a new heat wave: forecasters warn of sweltering nights

Temperatures in Spain are expected to rise significantly again in the coming days. Several regions are forecast to experience so-called “tropical nights,” when the air temperature does not drop below 20°C even after dark.

According to the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), temperatures will rise across the country on Friday. "Tropical nights" will continue in Alicante and Jaén, while in Madrid and Toledo, the low will be around 20°C.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued in the province of Cádiz due to strong easterly winds (levante). Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and significant sea swells are expected in the Strait of Gibraltar.

On Saturday, the weather will remain mostly sunny. Local thunderstorms are possible in parts of Galicia, Asturias, and Castile and León. Temperatures in some regions will rise to 35°C, and in the Guadiana and Guadalquivir river valleys, they may approach 40°C.

On Sunday, forecasters predict a change in weather conditions. The influx of cooler air in the upper atmosphere may cause thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind in the central and northern regions of the country.

Despite the instability early next week, temperatures will remain above average. According to preliminary forecasts, typical summer weather with high temperatures and little precipitation will prevail in Spain through the end of June.
