Israel attempted to kill Ali al-Amudi — Jerusalem Post
Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, conducted an operation on the morning of October 3 in which they attempted to kill Ali al-Amudi, the successor to Yahya Sinwar as Hamas leader in Gaza. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
At around 8:00 a.m., Israeli attack helicopters and tanks reportedly opened fire on suspicious targets that approached the Yellow Line. It later became known that the operation targeted the current Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Amudi’s role in Hamas
Ali al-Amudi was released from an Israeli prison in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange connected to the release of Gilad Shalit. Before that, he had spent nearly 20 years in prison.
After his release, al-Amudi was elected to Hamas’s political bureau. He also headed Yahya Sinwar’s office; he had served time in prison with Sinwar, who was also released under the Shalit deal. Al-Amudi later became one of Sinwar’s closest associates.
After Sinwar’s death in October 2024, a leadership vacuum emerged within Hamas in the Gaza Strip, according to The Jerusalem Post. Several senior members of the group took control of the enclave, while al-Amudi became its de facto leader, remaining largely out of the public eye. He formally assumed the position in July.
