Israel boosts readiness ahead of Yom Kippur — Jerusalem Post

In Israel, the Israel Defense Forces are increasing readiness on all fronts ahead of Yom Kippur on the instructions of Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir. As reported by the Jerusalem Post, additional reinforcement companies will join troops already deployed in the Northern, Central and Southern Commands.

Reinforcements on land, in the air and at sea

A senior commander will be on duty in each sector throughout the holiday. The Air Force will deploy a larger number of armed aircraft, while the Navy will increase the number of missile boats at sea and strengthen its continuous security presence along Israel's borders.

Reserve companies will also be reinforced and will be able to move between commands if necessary. Readiness levels at the General Staff level will be set according to developments in each sector. A major general will be on duty at the Home Front Command headquarters, and a district commander in each district.

The current deployment will be maintained

The Israel Defense Forces stressed that the additional forces will not replace units already deployed but will supplement them. At the end of August, Zamir also announced an increase in the level of readiness in the West Bank ahead of the holiday period amid heightened tensions in the area.

At that time, he ordered active units and battalions to be prepared to carry out reinforcement tasks and stated that there would be no operational pauses or reduction of combat forces during the holidays. Two years ago, several hours before the start of the Yom Kippur fast, the Israeli military also reinforced the Central Command with several combat companies to protect communities and the security barrier.
