Protests have resumed in Iran amid the country’s deteriorating economic situation. Israel is closely monitoring the situation, although the protests remain localized for now and have not reached the scale of previous anti-government demonstrations.
Israel is closely monitoring the new protests in Iran, which have taken place in several cities across the country in recent days. According to sources at the Kan news service, these demonstrations are still small in scale, but they indicate growing internal tensions. According to unofficial Iranian sources, on July 12, pensioners took to the streets in Tehran, Ahvaz, Shushi, Kermanshah, and several cities in Gilan Province.
Protesters demanded higher pensions, payment of arrears, and improved health insurance, and they spoke out against soaring prices.
A few days later, on July 20, video footage of new protests emerged. The footage reportedly shows gatherings of former telecommunications workers in the cities of Senendaj, Kermanshah, Bijar, and Isfahan. The root cause of the growing discontent remains the country’s difficult economic situation. Iranians are complaining about rising prices, the depreciation of the national currency—the rial—problems with water supply, and prolonged power outages in various provinces.

Despite this, no large-scale anti-government protests similar to those that have occurred in Iran in the past have been reported so far. Reuters reported on July 20 that even in the country’s most troubled southern regions, economic hardships and infrastructure damage have not yet led to a new major protest movement.
At the same time, the situation remains tense. Israel continues to monitor developments closely, as any serious internal upheaval in Iran could affect not only the situation within the country but also the security situation in the Middle East. Currently, the protests are primarily social in nature—people are demanding better living conditions, stable payments, and solutions to their daily economic problems. However, the Iranian government has repeatedly faced waves of discontent due to economic hardships and political restrictions, according to “Kan.”
