Israel replaces brigade in Syria, deploys division headquarters to West Bank — Jerusalem Post
The Israel Defense Forces announced the rotation of units in the security zone in Syria and the deployment of the headquarters of the 98th Division in the West Bank. As The Jerusalem Post reports, the headquarters is being redeployed to strengthen the defensive and offensive capabilities of Israeli forces in the region following recent attacks.
Rotation in Syria
Service members of the 228th Brigade, which operated under the command of the 210th Division, have completed a three-month deployment in the security zone in Syria. They will be replaced by troops from the 2nd Brigade.
According to the Israeli military, during the mission, the fighters conducted targeted operations, questioned dozens of suspects, detained several militants, dismantled terrorist infrastructure and discovered weapons. These included RPGs, mortar ammunition and Kalashnikov assault rifles.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa called on Israel to withdraw its forces from the security zone. He stated that Israel had carried out 500 airstrikes, more than 1,200 incursions and 300 detentions, and called for Israeli troops to be withdrawn to the line as of December 8, 2024. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz responded that the Golan Heights under Israeli sovereignty are an inseparable part of the state.
98th Division headquarters in the West Bank
The headquarters of the 98th Division will begin operating in the West Bank and will take command of the Judea and Etzion regional brigades. This order was issued by Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir following recent attacks in the area.
On Wednesday, at the Maccabim checkpoint on Route 443 near Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, reservist Neria Leiter was seriously wounded in a car-ramming attack that the publication describes as a terrorist attack. Leiter is a U.S. citizen and the son of Israel's ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter. On the same day, two Palestinians reportedly attempted to run over a farm owner in the Hebron Hills area; he opened fire and wounded one of them in the leg.
