Israeli Minister Chikli Refuses to Apologize to Communities on Gaza Border
In Israel, Minister for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Amichai Chikli refused to apologize to residents of communities on the border with the Gaza Strip over the October 7 attack. In an interview with KAN Reshet Bet, the Likud politician said that, in his view, the people who supported the Oslo Accords and disengagement should apologize.
The minister's position
As The Jerusalem Post reports, Chikli said that the failure occurred under the responsibility of the government. At the same time, he explained that he views the demand for an apology as placing blame on the government for allegedly deliberately harming residents of border communities.

The minister also said that he had opposed the Oslo Accords and disengagement. According to him, he is not prepared to listen to those who, in his view, had been promoting decisions all along that led to disasters.
Review of security failures
Chikli acknowledged the need to examine the serious security failure and the systems that, according to him, had functioned improperly. However, he said that he does not accept the portrayal of the events of October 7 as though he had personally and deliberately harmed residents of border communities. The minister then ended the interview.
