Kadyrov is building a boulevard in Grozny in honor of his father in the district named after Putin
Construction has begun in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, on a new boulevard that is planned to be named after Ramzan Kadyrov’s father. The head of the republic announced the initiative, noting that the boulevard is being built in a district that already bears Vladimir Putin’s name. In the region, this is being presented as part of large-scale urban improvement projects.
It is reported that the project will be named after Ramzan Kadyrov’s father—Akhmat Kadyrov, the first pro-Russian head of Chechnya.
The main feature of the construction is that this boulevard is being built within an urban district that Chechen authorities previously officially named after Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The mayor of Grozny, Khas-Magomed Kadyrov, has been appointed as the project supervisor and the person responsible for overseeing the work.
For Chechnya, whose leadership constantly reports to Moscow on its complete subservience, such a combination of the names of Putin and Kadyrov on the city map has already become commonplace. The new project creates the highest concentration of their names in one place:
- Location: Akhmat Kadyrov Boulevard will become the central pedestrian zone within the Putin District.
- Scale: The authorities promise to build a modern recreational area there with fountains, tree-lined avenues, and extensive landscaping.
- Neighborhood: Grozny already has a large avenue named after Vladimir Putin, which will now intersect with or border the Kadyrov family’s properties.
This entire region is fully funded by subsidies from Russia’s federal budget. Despite this, Ramzan Kadyrov regularly spends colossal sums on grandiose construction projects and renaming initiatives to prove his usefulness to the Kremlin and consolidate his clan’s absolute power in Chechnya.
Construction of the Akhmat Kadyrov Boulevard is scheduled to be completed and the boulevard put into operation by October 1, 2026.
