Canada and France to cooperate in space sector — Global News Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and French President Emmanuel Macron, during a meeting in the French territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, announced their intention to cooperate in space infrastructure, business and economic growth. This was reported by Global News Canada.
Space infrastructure
Carney said that the space agencies and defence departments of Canada and France would be tasked with developing and jointly using infrastructure. This includes space launch systems and ground receiving facilities.
A representative of the Canadian prime minister's office specified that the countries plan to cooperate on infrastructure capable of receiving data from satellites.
Economic and scientific cooperation
The leaders are also to instruct the regional joint cooperation commission between Atlantic Canada and Saint Pierre and Miquelon to expand its work on economic growth, the energy transition and climate resilience.

The chambers of commerce of Canada and France plan to intensify contacts between the business communities of the two countries. They are expected to sign an agreement in the coming weeks.
Macron also announced the creation of the Canada-France Polar Research Forum. The forum's first meeting is planned to be held in Saint Pierre and Miquelon.
The French president expressed support for Canada's future participation in the European Union and called Carney's visit a step in the development of relations between the states. According to Macron's office, Carney became the first Canadian prime minister to make an official visit to Saint Pierre and Miquelon, while Macron became the first French president to visit the archipelago in more than a decade.
After a working lunch, the leaders took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Free France Volunteers Memorial. In December 1941, Free French forces peacefully liberated the archipelago from the control of the Vichy regime, which assisted Nazi Germany during World War II.
