Canada has expanded sanctions against Russia over the abduction of Ukrainian children

Canada has expanded sanctions against Russia over the abduction of Ukrainian children

The Canadian government has announced new restrictive measures against Russia in response to the systematic abduction and forced deportation of Ukrainian children.

This is stated in a press release issued by the Canadian government.

The sanctions target 23 individuals and five entities directly involved in war crimes against minors.

The decision was announced during a high-level meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, taking place in Brussels on May 11.

Ottawa emphasized that the Kremlin’s actions, aimed at the propaganda indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian youth, grossly violate international law.

“Canada strongly condemns Russia’s actions and is imposing sanctions on 23 individuals and five entities linked to violations against Ukrainian children,” a press release stated.

Canadian authorities called on Moscow to immediately cease illegal transfers and ensure that children are able to return to their families.

The return of the deported children is not only a humanitarian issue but also a prerequisite for establishing a lasting and just peace.

“Canada calls on the Russian authorities to immediately return Ukrainian children home and to uphold their international obligations. The return of these children is important from a humanitarian perspective and is key to establishing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” the statement asserts.
