Akwa Ibom gubernatorial candidate Michael Bush welcomes a daughter — Premium Times Nigeria

Michael Bush, the Labour Party candidate for governor of Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State, and his wife, Janty, have welcomed a baby girl. This is the couple’s third daughter, Premium Times Nigeria reports.

Janty Bush announced the birth of the child on Facebook on Wednesday, when Akwa Ibom State marked the 39th anniversary of its creation. In the post, she used the Ibibio phrase “Abasiodiong Akwaabasi Ibom State,” which means “God bless Akwa Ibom State.”

She also posted photographs in white clothing showing her pregnant belly. The publication notes that these photos were likely taken before the birth. The post received congratulations from Facebook users, including her husband.

Michael Bush’s reaction

Michael Bush thanked his wife for her patience, love and contribution to expanding the family. At the end of his message, he addressed her with the Ibibio phrase “Nnwan Mmi!”, which means “my wife.” The politician also shared Janty Bush’s post on his own Facebook page.

Bush has worked in the media sector for more than three decades and is the head of Bush House Nigeria, a media production company. In May 2026, he won the Labour Party primaries and became its candidate in the Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election scheduled for 2027. He was previously a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and an aide to former governor Udom Emmanuel.
