Kanye West asks court to dismiss Donda Academy lawsuit — Rolling Stone

In the United States, artist Kanye West, who now performs under the name Ye, filed a motion in a Los Angeles court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Murphy Aficionado. Aficionado, who was involved in work at the private Christian school Donda Academy associated with West, accuses the artist of wrongful termination and harassment. Rolling Stone reports.

West’s position

In a motion for summary judgment, West asks the court to rule in his favor without a trial on the merits. He claims that Aficionado was not a Yeezy employee, but only temporarily taught engineering part-time at Donda Academy. According to West’s version, this work ended after the school closed, and Aficionado was paid $52 per hour.

The document also states that the plaintiff did not submit an employment application, receive an offer letter, have a personnel file, corporate email, work schedule, or assigned supervisor. West’s side says that in sworn responses, Aficionado allegedly did not cite specific episodes of discrimination or harassment.

Plaintiff’s claims

Aficionado filed the lawsuit in November 2024. He claims that West hired him in late 2022 as a Yeezy project manager at a rate of $125 per hour. According to the plaintiff, he regularly worked 70 hours a week, sometimes slept at the office, and carried out tasks related to a plan to move Donda Academy to a dilapidated property without the required permits.

In the lawsuit, Aficionado also alleges that West made offensive and antisemitic remarks, yelled at him, and made derogatory comments about his Filipino tattoos. A hearing on the motion is scheduled for December 17, while the trial is set for January.
