The heads of the largest American technology companies will attend a state dinner at the White House hosted in honor of the Chinese president.

U.S. President Donald Trump is hosting Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Washington. As part of the Chinese president’s three-day visit, a state dinner is planned, to which the heads of leading U.S. tech companies are expected to attend.

Among those invited are Apple CEO Tim Cook, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are also expected to attend the dinner.

Trump and Xi to Discuss Trade and Technology

The meeting between Trump and Xi comes amid tense relations between the U.S. and China over trade, technology, and the supply of rare earth metals.

Artificial intelligence may be one of the topics of discussion. Washington and Beijing are competing in this field, though both sides recognize the need to discuss the risks associated with the technology’s development.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated after talks with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng that the parties had agreed to extend the trade truce until January 10. The previous agreement was set to expire in November.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer also stated that Washington and Beijing may make new announcements regarding agriculture and non-tariff barriers.

According to Greer, China is making progress in fulfilling its commitment to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft. At the same time, the U.S. side has not reported any preparations for new large orders.

What Is Expected from the Talks

According to sources speaking to Reuters, no major breakthrough is expected during Xi Jinping’s visit. Possible outcomes of the talks include agreements on specific tariffs, cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, and the expansion of military dialogue between the countries.

Artificial intelligence may also become an area of limited cooperation. The parties are discussing the possibility of creating a mechanism similar to the Cold War-era “hotline,” which would help prevent dangerous incidents.

At the same time, analysts note that competition between the U.S. and China in the field of AI could limit tangible agreements. Despite the presence of tech executives at the state dinner, Washington is expected to maintain export restrictions on American technology, which Beijing is seeking to have eased.

The state dinner at the White House will be one of the main public events during Xi’s visit. In addition, an official ceremony at the White House and a visit to the U.S. National Archives are scheduled for the Chinese leader.
