Hainan allocates $2.7 mln for relief after heavy rains — ECNS

Authorities in China’s Hainan Province have urgently allocated 19 million yuan, or about $2.7 million, to assist those affected by heavy rains in the southeastern part of the province. The funds will be directed to support affected areas, including Wuzhishan, Baoting, Wanning, Qionghai, Lingshui, Dongfang and Changjiang.

Downpours in southeastern Hainan

As ECNS reports, the region recently experienced heavy and torrential rains. The weather was simultaneously affected by a tropical depression over the South China Sea and cold air. Exceptionally heavy precipitation was recorded in some settlements.

What the funds will be spent on

The funding was allocated by the Hainan Provincial Department of Finance and the Department of Emergency Management. The money will be used to support affected residents, transport and store relief supplies, as well as identify and eliminate risks of secondary disasters.

The funds are also intended for the repair and reconstruction of damaged homes. The measures are meant to meet the basic needs of people in affected areas and help restore normal production activities and daily life as soon as possible.
