Hezbollah claims to have attacked the Iron Dome system with an FPV drone — The Jerusalem Post

Hezbollah militants reported striking an Israeli "Iron Dome" air defense battery. According to their account, the attack was carried out using a kamikaze drone equipped with remote control and first-person video streaming capabilities.

The Jerusalem Post reported this on May 11.

On Sunday evening, Hezbollah released footage of the attack, and the video clearly shows the moment the drone struck the air defense installation on the northern border. The Israel Defense Forces have not officially commented on the incident.

However, sources in military circles do not dispute the authenticity of the recording. Experts suggest that the attack itself took place several days ago, and the militants needed time to edit and publish the footage.

Why Drones Outsmarted High Technology

FPV drones have become a serious problem for Israel, as terrorists are increasingly using these types of drones. Advanced tracking systems are not always able to detect them. Their small size helps the drones remain undetected, and their low flight altitude also works to the enemy’s advantage.

Israel previously succeeded in shooting down conventional drones, but the use of FPV drones has changed the game. This tactic became widespread during the Russia-Ukraine war, and now militants on the border with Israel have adopted it.

The Israeli military is currently implementing pilot programs to detect small targets. IDF officers acknowledge the complexity of the situation. The process is moving slowly, as the army is forced to react in real time, the publication reports.

The problem was predicted in advance: as early as mid-March, former head of Israel’s Air Defense Command Ran Kochav warned that the army was not adequately protecting its most valuable assets. These include the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow systems.

According to the general, if these systems are hit, the country’s broader defense system could suffer serious damage. Now these fears are being confirmed in practice, and Israel is forced to urgently change its approach to defending its airspace.

As a reminder, Hezbollah has put forward conditions for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Earlier, Iran announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping for the duration of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

In Lebanon, a French peacekeeper was killed during shelling, and three other soldiers were wounded and evacuated. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the incident, stating that Hezbollah or forces affiliated with it were responsible. Paris is demanding an investigation and punishment for those responsible.
