Pashinyan's party has a chance to secure a clear majority in the Armenian elections
The party of Armenia’s current Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, is well positioned to secure a decisive victory and form a solid majority in parliament following the upcoming elections, scheduled for June 7.
This is evidenced by the results of a recent opinion poll conducted by Breavis, according to Euronews.
According to data from pollsters who collected responses from 1,551 respondents between May 5 and 11, the pro-presidential “Civic Contract” party is significantly ahead of its political rivals. Among citizens who have already decided on their choice and are ready to go to the polls, Pashinyan’s political party is garnering about 65% of the vote. Such strong support will allow it to single-handedly control the country’s legislature.
At the same time, the Armenian opposition is approaching the June elections in a highly fragmented state. Research shows that currently, none of the alternative political forces or blocs is capable of surpassing even a 12% support threshold. This distribution of power demonstrates a high level of public confidence in the government’s current pro-European integration course, against the backdrop of a significant weakening of the positions of the country’s former pro-Russian elites.
Russia has recalled its ambassador from Armenia for consultations in Moscow amid reports of Yerevan’s rapprochement with the European Union. The Russian Foreign Ministry attributes this move to political differences between the countries. In reality, this is yet another sign of tension in relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
