Supporters of Yashin in Berlin organized a convention for his new party
The founding convention of a new political party being established by Russian opposition figure Ilya Yashin began in Berlin on June 12. The organizers unveiled the name “Peaceful Forces of Russia” and a logo featuring a stylized cat.
The party’s final name has not yet been approved. “Peaceful Russia” is also being discussed as an option. According to Yashin, the name refers to a remark made by Alexei Navalny at a 2011 protest rally about “peaceful force.”
The first day of the congress is being held behind closed doors. The election of the party leadership is expected, as well as the presentation of its manifesto, declaration, and charter.
The organizers state that the new political force is intended to represent the interests of the Russian opposition abroad.
