Houthis attacked the port of Mocha in Yemen: according to military officials, seven people were killed
Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis attacked the government-controlled port city of Mocha on the Red Sea coast on Sunday evening. According to the Yemeni military, seven people were killed—four soldiers and three civilians. Another 30 people were wounded.
The Yemeni military stated that the attack also targeted civilian infrastructure, military forces, and residential areas of the city. According to their reports, air defense forces intercepted and shot down 11 Houthi drones involved in the attack.
The Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV channel showed footage of the launch of several ballistic missiles and drones. Yahya Saria, a spokesperson for the group’s military wing, stated on Telegram that the strikes targeted concentrations of Saudi troops and weapons depots.

As France 24 notes, the strike on Mosi was the latest episode in one of the largest waves of Houthi attacks on Yemeni military positions and areas controlled by the Saudi-backed government since the 2022 ceasefire. Amid threats to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, attention has shifted to routes through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Some ships have rerouted to these areas, as traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is significantly restricted.
Last month, the Houthis announced a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. The group claimed this was in response to an alleged Saudi siege in Yemen, but Riyadh has rejected these accusations. The Houthis also reported an attack on a Saudi Aramco oil refinery in Jizan. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Energy stated that a fire broke out at the facility, which was subsequently extinguished; there were no casualties.
