Kit Kellogg saw the benefits of suspending negotiations with Russia
Kit Kellogg, the former U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, stated that the negotiation process between officials in Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow is currently on hold. According to the American official, this state of affairs is a positive development, as Ukraine is successfully repelling the aggression while key American negotiators Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner are occupied with Iran.
Kellogg emphasized that the United States’ temporary focus on countering Iran leaves Ukraine room to independently carry out military tasks, which the Ukrainian army is handling very effectively. Commenting on the Kremlin’s current defense capabilities, the former special envoy assured that the Baltic states and Eastern Europe are currently completely safe. He stressed that Vladimir Putin currently has no real combat power to expand the zone of aggression to Poland or other states in the region, since Ukrainian forces have effectively destroyed the Russian regular army.
Speaking about Washington’s global goals, Keith Kellogg noted that the Donald Trump administration seeks to achieve a stable peace as quickly as possible, since five years of full-scale war is more than enough for the European continent. In addition, the American politician added that the U.S. sanctions package against Russia is still under active development and is not final, refuting rumors of a possible easing of economic pressure on the aggressor country. The diplomat also welcomed the fact that direct dialogue had begun following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s open letter to the Kremlin leader and announced his official visit to Ukraine in late summer 2026.
Kit Kellogg announced this in a comment to Suspilne.
