Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister fell victim to pranksters from Russia

Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gerasimov, fell victim to Russian pranksters “Vovan” and “Lexus,” who posed as Albania’s foreign minister and recorded a phone conversation.

During the conversation, they discussed Moldova’s European integration, the prospects for Transnistria’s reintegration, and relations with the European Union. The pranksters later released excerpts of the conversation to the public.

After the recording was published, Gerasimov confirmed the authenticity of the conversation but stated that the released excerpts were taken out of context and used for manipulation.

According to her, the closer Moldova moves toward the EU, the more active Russia’s attempts become to discredit the country’s European integration course through information operations and disinformation.

Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that Ukraine and Moldova’s accession to the EU is not a “concession” on Europe’s part, but a strategic choice for the security of the entire continent. She emphasized that both countries have already proven their right to be part of the European Union by choosing the European path under difficult conditions.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu expressed confidence that the country will be ready to join the European Union by 2030.
