A fire completely destroyed two ships in the port of the Greek island of Paxos – video

On Thursday, June 11, an emergency occurred at the main port of the popular Greek island of Paxos—a passenger catamaran and a wooden boat caught fire simultaneously. Firefighters and coast guard personnel immediately arrived at the scene and launched a large-scale rescue operation to extinguish the fire and ensure safety in the port’s waters.

According to preliminary information from local authorities, the fire broke out while a group of foreign tourists was on board one of the vessels. All passengers were quickly and safely evacuated to shore before the flames completely engulfed the vessels, resulting in no casualties.

A thick column of black smoke rose over the port, leading to temporary delays and serious disruptions in the operations of this vital transportation hub, which serves as the key entry point for visitors to the resort island.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, who tried to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby private and commercial vessels, both ships were completely gutted and destroyed. Greek law enforcement officials noted that immediately after the final completion of dousing the structures and extinguishing smoldering hot spots, an official investigation will be launched to determine the exact causes and circumstances of this massive fire.

This was reported by the Greek publication Ekathimerini.

A large forest fire has broken out in southern Greece near the resort town of Loutraki. The fire has engulfed a pine forest and is spreading rapidly across the area. Firefighting units and specialized equipment have been deployed to extinguish the blaze. Rescuers are working to prevent the flames from spreading to populated areas.

In the suburbs of Athens, a large forest fire has engulfed areas with low vegetation. More than 100 firefighters have been deployed to extinguish the fire near the industrial city of Aspropyrgos, west of the Greek capital.
