China Is Developing Humanoid Robots for Possible Use in Combat — Reuters
The Chinese military and scientists are actively researching the potential applications of humanoid robots in combat conditions. An analysis of more than 100 military procurements, research papers, patents, and official documents indicates that this activity intensified particularly in 2025–2026.
Chinese military institutions are testing robots, studying their interaction with service members, and acquiring technologies to train them. The primary focus is on the machines’ ability to navigate their surroundings, perform various tasks, and work with training data.
At the same time, humanoid combat robots have not yet been deployed to active units of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. The military is already developing concepts for their use, particularly during urban combat. According to one model, robots could be used alongside soldiers to clear buildings.
The study’s authors predict that such assault teams could emerge within the next 5–10 years.
