South Korean prime minister says defense capabilities will be used for peace

South Korean Prime Minister Han Sung Sook said in Seoul that the country will use its advanced manufacturing capabilities and defense industry to strengthen global security and shared prosperity. She said this in a keynote speech at the annual Seoul Defense Dialogue security forum, Korea Herald reports.

Peace and economic growth

Han stressed that in a closely interconnected world, wars and conflicts in one region are not limited to the place where they originate. According to her, peace is a fundamental basis for economic growth.

The prime minister noted that a war beyond the country’s borders can have a significant economic impact on the state and the well-being of its population. She also conveyed President Lee Jae Myung’s position: prosperity cannot be based solely on economic growth and requires a stable and peaceful world order.

Defense industry and humanitarian aid

According to Han, the government seeks to build a state that does not act in isolation but pursues common interests through pragmatic diplomacy focused on national interests, peaceful coexistence, and mutual prosperity.

She said South Korea will use its world-class manufacturing capabilities, the competitiveness of its defense industry, its democratization experience, and the potential of Korean culture to create a safer and more prosperous world. The country also intends to fulfill its responsibilities in peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, disaster response, and reconstruction.

Han added that Seoul will work to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula. In her assessment, it should extend to Northeast Asia and contribute to global peace and mutual prosperity.
