China is returning to Boeing after a hiatus of nearly 10 years

China is returning to Boeing after a hiatus of nearly 10 years

China has agreed to purchase 200 aircraft from the American company Boeing. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this, calling the deal a major victory for the American aircraft manufacturer. The U.S. leader made the remarks in an interview, according to Bloomberg.

If the information is officially confirmed, this will be the first major order from Chinese airlines for Boeing in nearly a decade. For the company, this is a chance to return to one of the world’s most important aviation markets.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that China has agreed to purchase 200 Boeing jet aircraft as part of a new multibillion-dollar deal. According to Trump, the American corporation had expected a smaller order. “Boeing wanted 150, they got 200,” Trump said. So far, few official details of the contract have been released. It is unknown exactly which aircraft models are included in the deal. The parties have also not yet disclosed the contract’s value.

At the same time, Bloomberg reports that ahead of the U.S. delegation’s trip to Beijing, the market had anticipated an even larger deal. There was talk of a potential order for up to 500 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, as well as several wide-body jets.

Analysts have already called the current figure lower than forecasts. “The order for 200 aircraft is a disappointment for the market, which expected 300 or more,” noted Bloomberg Intelligence analyst George Ferguson. Despite this, the deal is still of great significance to Boeing. In recent years, the company has effectively lost the Chinese market due to trade disputes between the U.S. and China, certification issues with the Boeing 737 Max, and a general deterioration in relations between the two countries.

Now, the American aviation giant has a chance to resume cooperation with Chinese airlines. This is particularly important given the large-scale restructuring of the company being carried out by Boeing’s new CEO, Kelly Ortberg. It is known that Ortberg is also part of the American delegation working in Beijing alongside Trump.

For China, this agreement also has practical significance. Global demand for new aircraft is currently very high, and manufacturers simply cannot keep up with production. As a result, major airlines are trying to book aircraft years in advance. This is particularly true of the Asian market, where air travel is rapidly recovering from the crisis of recent years.

Experts note that access to American aircraft will help Chinese carriers modernize their fleets and expand international routes.

As a reminder, Boeing has endured several difficult years due to the 737 Max crashes, production issues, and financial losses. The company has also lost market share to its European competitor, Airbus, which has recently been more active in working with Chinese customers.

Now the situation may change. If the contract for 200 aircraft is indeed finalized, it will mark one of Boeing’s biggest breakthroughs in the Chinese market in the last decade.

Boeing unveiled the first prototype of its new 777-8F freighter from a hangar at its Everett plant. This model, whose construction began last summer, is set to become the new benchmark for range and fuel efficiency in its class.
