Albania, Finland, and Sweden have officially become members of the NATO Cyber Defence Centre

Albania, Finland, and Sweden have officially become members of the NATO Cyber Defence Centre

On Thursday, May 14, a flag-raising ceremony was held at the headquarters of NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) in Tallinn to welcome three new full members—Albania, Finland, and Sweden. This expansion has brought the organization closer to its goal of becoming the first center of excellence to include absolutely all Alliance member countries.

This was reported on the organization’s official website.

Founded in 2008, the CCDCOE is currently the largest NATO-accredited center in terms of membership, bringing together 39 countries, including both Alliance members and key partners. Center Director Tiinas Saar emphasized that interest in the institution’s activities is constantly growing amid global challenges in the digital domain.

The Center’s main tasks are:

  • providing expertise in the legal, strategic, and technical spheres of cyber defense;

  • conducting large-scale cyber exercises and specialized training;

  • developing joint doctrines and standards to strengthen the Alliance’s collective resilience against hybrid threats.

The addition of new members strengthens NATO’s capacity to repel cyberattacks and coordinate actions among partner nations in Eastern and Northern Europe. Cooperation within the CCDCOE allows countries to rapidly exchange data on new vulnerabilities and methods to counter digital espionage.

Previously, hackers gained access to data from the Booking.com website, the company reported. The attackers were able to obtain information about customer bookings, and some users received emails on Sunday notifying them of a possible data breach.

Hackers also attacked the Hyperbridge, which connects the Ethereum and Polkadot blockchains, gaining control of the DOT token contract via a spoofed message. As a result, they minted 1 billion counterfeit DOT tokens and immediately sold them in a single transaction, netting approximately $237,000.
