China recognizes 11 new professions and 23 types of work

China has officially recognized 11 new professions and 23 new types of work amid the development of the digital and green economies. Five of the 11 new professions are related to digital fields, while another three are linked to the green economy, ECNS reports, citing China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Changes in the labor market

Li Changan, a professor at the School of Public Administration of the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, said that the emergence of new professions and work categories reflects changes in the economy and demand in the labor market.

According to him, demand for workers is shaped by two main areas. The first is the innovation economy, including the digital economy and artificial intelligence. The development of AI and other technologies is changing economic and social activity while creating new professions and employment opportunities.

Green economy and elderly care

Li Changan named the green economy as the second area. In his view, it is an important factor in the development of new productive forces and creates growing demand for workers in new fields.

The expert also drew attention to the profession of elderly care service provider. It was officially added to the national catalog of professions only last year, although similar services had existed for many years. In Li Changan’s view, inclusion in the catalog could make this profession more attractive and promote the standardization and professionalization of services for older people.
