China buys 70% of pledged U.S. soybeans by end of 2025
China has purchased at least 8 million tonnes of U.S. soybeans by the end of 2025, representing about 70% of the volume agreed upon with Washington earlier this autumn. The buying began in October and continued through December.

The White House previously stated that after talks between leaders Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, Beijing committed to buying a minimum of 12 million tonnes of soybeans by year-end. The deadline for this commitment was later extended to the end of February 2026. To encourage purchases, the Chinese government reduced soybean tariffs and lifted export bans for three American suppliers.
These agreements could affect trade relations between the two countries, as well as help stabilise the soybean market by ensuring more predictable supply in the coming years.
