China proposes five BRICS initiatives for the Global South — Dawn
Pakistani outlet Dawn, citing China Daily, reported that China had proposed five initiatives within BRICS cooperation. The publication notes that they are intended to help Global South countries overcome development challenges.
Technology, trade and personnel
One of the areas is an open and inclusive initiative in artificial intelligence. Its stated goal is to expand developing countries’ access to advanced technologies and affordable practical digital tools.
The trade and investment facilitation initiative envisages simplifying cross-border cooperation by removing tariff barriers, customs procedures and restrictions on access to investment. Other proposals concern cooperation in the digital industry and intelligent manufacturing, as well as the development of scientific and technical personnel.
According to the article’s authors, training specialists should help reduce the shortage of technical expertise in Global South countries and provide the human capital needed for innovation and growth.

The third “golden decade”
The authors link these proposals to the beginning of the third “golden decade” of BRICS cooperation. In their view, unlike the first two decades, which were characterized by expanding scale and deepening cooperation, the new stage will focus on development, security, civilizational dialogue and global governance.
The article also states that the initiatives should be based on the principles of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, contribute to resolving regional differences and expand people-to-people contacts. Within the “expanded BRICS” model, they are intended, according to the authors, to represent the common interests of the Global South, support the authority of the UN and strengthen these countries’ influence in the world.
The authors believe that the key outcome of the third decade could be the transformation of BRICS from a regional trade and economic platform into a more influential participant in global governance.
