Chinese railways carried 954 million passengers during summer season
China's railways carried 954 million passengers during the 62-day summer travel season, from July 1 to August 31, 2026. ECNS reports, citing China State Railway Group.
To increase transport capacity, railway authorities operated an average of 11,623 passenger trains nationwide each day.
Cross-border routes
Growth in passenger traffic was also recorded on cross-border routes. The Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong high-speed line served 6.27 million trips, while the China–Laos Railway served 56,000 trips.

The number of foreign passengers totaled 4.45 million, up 32.2% from the same period of the previous year.
Tourist and freight transport
To support tourism and cultural travel, the railways launched 699 tourist trains and 351 customized services. These included services for visitors attending concerts and sporting events.
During the summer period, national railways also transported 224 million metric tons of coal, helping ensure a stable energy supply.
