China’s Dehua County to invest over $416 million in ceramics — ECNS
Dehua County in China’s Fujian Province has announced a ceramics industry modernization program, for which it plans to allocate more than 3 billion yuan, or about $416 million. The initiative is intended to expand the international presence of local manufacturers, ECNS reports.
The development plan was presented by Dehua County head Wu Zhipu during the opening of Dehua Ceramic Culture Week 2026. According to him, the county intends to enhance the artistic value of ceramic products, strengthen the integration of the industry with urban development, and increase the international recognition of local brands.
Six modernization directions
Dehua has introduced a six-direction plan to upgrade the industry, with initial investment amounting to 120 million yuan. Total investment of 3 billion yuan is to be directed toward six key platforms, including those for quality control, cross-border oversight, and data-processing services across the entire production chain.

Six groups of projects are also planned, related to the development of industrial parks, cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan, and international cooperation. According to the presented plan, these projects are intended to expand opportunities for industry development and create new growth drivers.
Porcelain production
Dehua has a long history of porcelain production: the tradition of making white porcelain here dates back to the Tang Dynasty, from 618 to 907. Beginning with the Song and Yuan dynasties, ceramics from Dehua were exported in large volumes via the Maritime Silk Road.
More than 4,000 ceramics companies operate in the county, employing about 100,000 people. ECNS calls Dehua China’s largest producer and exporter of artistic ceramics, as well as a leading producer of ceramic tea sets and flower pots.
