Ten lions found dead in Tanzania, poisoning suspected — Asharq Al-Awsat
Ten lions were found dead in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania. The area's administration said preliminary data indicate that the animals may have died after poison entered their bodies.
The lions were discovered on September 18
The animals were found on September 18 in the Ndutu area, in Endulen District of the Arusha Region. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority has launched an investigation to establish the exact cause of the lions' deaths and identify those responsible.
The authority stressed that the findings regarding possible poisoning are preliminary. The cause of the animals' deaths is still being determined.

A threat to large predators
Poisoning has repeatedly posed a threat to large predators in some parts of East Africa. Such incidents are often linked to conflicts between predators and livestock owners.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Tanzania's main tourist attractions. It is home to lions, elephants, buffaloes and endangered black rhinos.
