Former French Prime Minister Balladur dies at 97
Former French Prime Minister Édouard Balladur has died at the age of 97. As Daily Maverick reports, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced this in a post on X.
Lecornu’s statement
According to Lecornu, Balladur was closely connected to 50 years of the history of the Fifth Republic. The French prime minister noted that the politician played a prominent role in the country’s public life, from the beginning of his work alongside Georges Pompidou to his appointment as head of government.

Lecornu also described Balladur as a statesman with a reformist spirit. According to him, the former prime minister will remain an example for many members of his political family.

Édouard Balladur was a conservative politician and headed the French government from 1993 to 1995. During that period, France’s president was the socialist François Mitterrand.
