United Airlines will introduce beds in economy class for passengers

United Airlines will introduce beds in economy class for passengers

United Airlines economy class passengers will soon be able to sleep comfortably during their flights. The airline has unveiled a new service called Relax Row, which transforms standard seats into a full-fledged resting area.

This is reported by The Sun.

Relax Row consists of special rows of seats that can be reclined to a horizontal position. As a result, passengers get a sort of sofa bed.

These seats will be equipped with mattresses, footrests, blankets, pillows, and kits for children.

“United’s Relax Row is ideal for families traveling with young children, solo travelers, and couples who want to enjoy the benefits of United’s economy class but with added comfort,” the airline noted.

The service is scheduled to launch in 2027. By 2030, the airline plans to install these relaxation zones on more than 200 wide-body Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

Each aircraft is expected to have about 12 Relax Row sections.

Other airlines are already using similar solutions. In particular:

  • Air New Zealand offers rows of seats that convert into beds
  • Lufthansa offers a Sleeper’s Row service for long-haul flights

The idea of transforming economy class into a more comfortable format is gaining popularity among airlines. The new format allows passengers to enjoy an experience close to business class at a lower price—especially on long-haul flights.

Relax Row is expected to be popular among families, couples, and frequent long-haul travelers.

Recently, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby announced in a memo the decision to cut more than 5% of flight routes due to the fuel crisis in Iran. This decision comes amid forecasts that oil prices will rise to $175 per barrel and could remain above $100 through the end of 2027. This move makes United the first U.S. airline to be forced to reduce the number of flights due to a fuel shortage.
