Kuwait to issue 10-year residence permits to those stripped of citizenship
Kuwait has amended the executive regulations of its law on the residence of foreigners: people who have been stripped of Kuwaiti citizenship and their dependents will be able to obtain a free 10-year residence permit. This applies to those who have returned to their original citizenship or acquired another one.
Asharq Al-Awsat reports on the decision, published on Sunday in the official Kuwait Al-Youm gazette. The director general of the General Department of Residency Affairs will determine the conditions and rules for issuing and renewing permits.
Right to work
People who receive such a residence permit will also be able to work in Kuwait in accordance with rules established by the General Department of Residency Affairs.

The changes are intended to regulate the legal status and residence procedures for the categories covered by the decision, as well as the procedures for issuing and renewing residence and employment permits in the country.
Staying outside the country
The updated rules also set the general period residents may stay outside Kuwait at six months. Exceptions are provided, in particular, for children of Kuwaiti women who did not acquire citizenship by descent, property owners, investors covered by Law No. 116 of 2013, and residence permit holders.
The General Department of Residency Affairs may allow stays abroad exceeding six months under specified conditions if the residence permit remains valid. For domestic workers, the period of stay outside Kuwait has been set at four months unless they have received prior permission for a longer absence.
