IDF may change medical threshold for combat positions — Jerusalem Post
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) may change the profiling system for candidates for combat positions by introducing a new score of 70. This could allow some candidates with minor but not entirely insignificant medical limitations to apply for certain combat specialties.
New profile
Previously, the lowest profile that allowed service in any combat position was a score of 72 out of 100. Candidates who received a profile of 64 due to a certain medical condition were automatically not considered for such roles.
According to the Jerusalem Post, KAN News was the first to report that the decision to change the system had been approved. Under the new approach, some candidates whose profile had previously been lowered from 72 to 64 could receive a score of 70.

Available positions
A profile of 70 would allow service, among other roles, in artillery, air defense units, certain positions in the Air Force, and other designated roles. At the same time, such service members would not be assigned to infantry units, including the Golani and Givati brigades.
After the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, the IDF said it lacked 7,000 combat soldiers and 10,000–12,000 service members overall. The publication noted that the shortage was linked to military personnel who were killed and wounded, as well as growing needs of the regular army.
At the time of publication, the IDF had not responded to repeated inquiries regarding the change to the profile system. The Jerusalem Post noted that this prompted speculation about possible disputes or a delay in implementing the decision.
