IRGC kills six group members in Zahedan — Jerusalem Post

In Iran’s Zahedan, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps killed six members of a group. As reported by the Jerusalem Post, Iran’s state-run IRNA agency described the group as terrorist.

Explosive devices

According to IRNA, security forces found and confiscated explosive devices. The agency did not name those killed or provide other details of the incident.

The Haalvsh human rights group, which monitors the situation in Sistan and Baluchestan province, said that fighting between military and security forces on one side and armed individuals on the other began on Thursday morning.

Situation in the region

Zahedan is the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. The province borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and is a major drug trafficking route. Clashes between security forces and armed groups, including Sunni militants and separatists, occur frequently in the region.

Tehran accuses some armed groups of ties to foreign states and involvement in cross-border smuggling. Separately, the Fars agency reported that an explosion was heard in Zahedan on Wednesday, but it caused no damage.
