Latvia plans to completely suspend bus service to Russia and Belarus — Delfi

The Latvian Ministry of Transport has drafted and prepared official amendments that would impose a complete ban on all passenger bus services to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

This was reported by Delfi.

The new restrictions will apply not only to direct routes but also to transit trips through the country’s territory.

Currently, Latvia already has a strict ban on international non-scheduled bus trips across the state border with the aggressor and its ally.

However, the updated rules extend these sanctions to include regular scheduled services as well, effectively isolating this route entirely.

For these amendments to take effect, they must be approved by the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers in the near future.

Once the document is officially adopted, the State Road Transport Directorate (ATD) will be authorized to revoke existing permits for specific transport companies.

The relevant agency emphasizes that such measures are necessary given the current geopolitical situation and security threats.

“The restrictions are in line with the Latvian Constitution and are justified in a democratic society,” ministry representatives emphasized in an explanatory note.
