Latvia detected an unidentified drone near its border with Russia

On the evening of March 30, the Latvian National Armed Forces detected an unidentified drone near the border with Russia. The drone, believed to be foreign-made, was spotted in the Ludza and Balvi regions.

This was reported by the Latvian Army on social media.

The military clarified that the drone was near the Latvian-Russian border but did not violate the country’s airspace.

Due to the potential threat, authorities promptly activated an SMS alert system for residents of border regions. After the drone moved away, people received a follow-up message confirming that there was no danger.

At the same time, similar incidents have already been recorded in other countries in the region. In particular, during a massive attack on March 26, a Russian drone violated Romania’s airspace and crashed on its territory. According to the Ministry of Defense, the drone flew approximately 4 km into the country.

It is likely that the drone was damaged or intercepted by Ukrainian air defense forces while repelling an attack in southern Ukraine.

Earlier, several unidentified drones violated Finnish airspace and crashed on its territory.

Two drones, likely belonging to Ukraine, crashed on Finnish territory, said the country’s Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo.
