Latvia's airBaltic is seeking a government loan due to rising fuel costs
The Latvian airline airBaltic has appealed to the Ministry of Transport for a short-term loan due to the sharp rise in jet fuel prices amid the war in the Middle East.
This was reported by LSM.
The exact amount of the request has not been officially disclosed, but earlier estimates suggested a possible €100–150 million.
Transport Minister Atis Švinka stated that it is important for the state to ensure the company’s continued operations, so the matter will be considered at the next government meeting.
Despite financial pressure, airBaltic continues to operate flights according to schedule. At the same time, like other airlines, it was forced to cancel flights to Tel Aviv and Dubai for security reasons.
