A wolf that bit a woman was captured in downtown Hamburg

In the center of Hamburg, Germany, police captured a wolf that had previously attacked a woman and bitten her in the face.

This was reported by NDR.

The incident occurred on the shopping street Grosse Bergstrasse near an Ikea store. According to preliminary reports, the woman was trying to lead the animal away from the street when it ran into a storefront, after which the wolf bit her.

The victim received medical attention and was hospitalized. Doctors stitched up the wound, after which she was released home.

According to authorities, this is the first wolf attack on a human in Germany since 1998.

After the attack, the animal was spotted in another part of the city and later in the water of the Alster River. Police pulled the wolf out of the water using a noose and then held it at a construction site for over an hour.

Eventually, the animal was handed over to specialists along with a veterinarian. The wolf was transported to the Klövenstien Nature Reserve.

It is currently under observation, after which it is planned to be released back into the wild.

Last year, Finland recorded a record number of reindeer deaths—over 2,100 animals fell victim to wolf attacks. Local reindeer herders believe that the sharp increase in the predator population is linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
