Lavrov calls Germany’s accusations the beginning of a real war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, representing the aggressor state, said that accusations of Moscow’s involvement in the drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany mark the beginning of a real war. The Moscow Times reports, citing the Russian state news agency TASS.

Lavrov’s statement

Lavrov linked these accusations to statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about his intention to make Germany Europe’s leading military power again. According to the Russian foreign minister, these statements are allegedly being put into practice, and Merz is effectively declaring war on Russia.

Germany’s response

On September 1, the German government said it had concluded that Russia was responsible for an attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport last month. In response, Berlin announced a number of measures, including the closure of the consulate and the Russian cultural center in Berlin.

Russia rejected the German accusations as unfounded. Moscow also claimed that Berlin had allegedly planted evidence in order to accuse Russia of the attack.
