Lavrov stated that negotiations regarding Ukraine are not a priority for Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that resuming negotiations on Ukraine is not currently a priority for Moscow.

This is reported by Russian media.

According to Lavrov, the possible resumption of talks in Istanbul is not a key focus for the Russian side.

“The possibility of resuming negotiations in Istanbul—this issue is not our top priority at the moment. We have not forced negotiations on anyone. We have always proceeded from the premise that if a partner is ready, we will not stand in the way,” he said.

The statement came amid periodic discussions regarding possible formats for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, which, however, remain stalled due to the continuation of hostilities.

Prior to this, Ukraine had expressed its readiness to hold a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Turkey, but with the participation of two other world leaders.

The idea of direct talks between Ukraine and Russia is periodically raised amid international efforts to end the war, but the format and conditions of such meetings remain the subject of diplomatic discussions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the temporary suspension of trilateral talks involving the U.S. and Russia due to a shift in Washington’s foreign policy priorities.
