Estonian Social Democratic leader says opposition will cooperate — ERR News
In Estonia, opposition parties in the Riigikogu may continue making decisions and voting together on key issues despite ideological differences. This was stated by Social Democratic Party leader Lauri Läänemets.
As ERR News reports, on Monday the Riigikogu initially failed to approve the agenda for the working week due to objections from the opposition. It opposed placing the issue of setting up a defence inquiry committee at the end of the agenda.
Joint opposition votes
According to Läänemets, this case demonstrated the ability of opposition forces to reach agreements among themselves. He noted that the parties would not act jointly on every issue, but could unite on matters they consider important for Estonia.

The politician suggested that other instances of joint opposition decisions and votes are possible before the elections. He also said that, if an agreement is reached, opposition forces can influence which bills are included on the Riigikogu agenda and which are not. At the same time, Läänemets stressed that the opposition intends to remain constructive, as the state must function.
Questions over defence procurement
Separately, the Social Democratic leader commented on a letter to Estonia's prime minister containing 15 questions and mentioning the companies Datasel and ARCA. According to him, the main question concerns the Reform Party's ties to Jaanus Rahumägi, Hanno Pevkur and Kristen Michal.
Läänemets stated that Rahumägi was an intermediary for a company from which the state decided to purchase ammunition worth €90 million. According to him, the company promised to establish production in Estonia, and the opposition wants to find out why it was preferred over other major international companies. He also said that the opposition seeks to determine whether these funding decisions could ultimately lead to financing for the Reform Party.
