The leader of the Lithuanian Social Democrats has expressed his willingness to head the new government
Mindaugas Sinkevičius, chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, announced his intention to form a new government and assume the office of prime minister.
According to the politician, he made this decision in light of citizens’ expectations and the need to ensure unity in the country. Sinkevičius emphasized that the future government will focus on combating rising prices and addressing social inequality and poverty.
Among his priorities, he also cited the development of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, the defense industry, and high-tech sectors of the economy.
The future head of government plans to devote special attention to issues of national security and defense. According to him, due to rising geopolitical tensions, Lithuania must accelerate the strengthening of its defense capabilities, particularly its air defense systems.
Sinkevičius is set to replace Inga Ruginienė as prime minister. The formation of the new government follows the Social Democrats’ decision to reshuffle the ruling coalition and hold negotiations to form a new majority in parliament.
