The leader of the Hungarian opposition, Magyar, has expressed his willingness to negotiate with Putin

Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, stated that Hungary’s new government would be willing to negotiate with the Russian president.

This was reported by Népszava.

According to him, the contacts will be purely pragmatic in nature and will concern energy, specifically oil and gas supplies.

“We will have to sit down at the negotiating table with the Russian president. Our geographical position will not change, nor will our energy dependence—at least for the time being,” Magyar said.

He also emphasized the need to diversify supplies but noted that this cannot be done quickly.

At the same time, the politician stressed that he has no sympathy for Putin: “We will not become friends.”

Mátyás also responded to statements by incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that the opposition would act in Ukraine’s interests. According to him, the goal is a “pro-Hungarian government,” not a “pro-Ukrainian” one.

The Kremlin, for its part, declared its readiness for “pragmatic contacts” with Hungary’s new government and expressed hope for continued cooperation.

As a reminder, according to the results of 98.93% of the votes counted, the “Tisa” party won 69.35% of the vote. This gives the opposition 138 seats in parliament, allowing it to form a constitutional majority on its own.

Trump declined to comment on the defeat of his friend Orbán in the Hungarian elections.
