The leader of the Hungarian opposition has called on the international community not to interfere in Hungary's elections

Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, called on international politicians not to interfere in Hungary’s parliamentary elections amid a visit to Budapest by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

Mátyás made this statement in a video message posted on Facebook.

The politician emphasized that no country should interfere in the electoral process, alluding to the U.S. vice president’s support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

“I strongly urge international actors, from Ukraine to Serbia, from Russia to America, not to attempt to interfere in the elections in Hungary. We are not a testing ground for experiments; we are not an arena for geopolitical games; this is our homeland, and its fate will be decided by Hungarian citizens,” Magyar stated.

He also addressed the U.S. Vice President directly, urging him not to negotiate with Orbán regarding the deployment of Hungarian troops to the Middle East.

“I respectfully ask the U.S. Vice President, who is coming to Hungary, that if he is already campaigning for Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian people should not have to pay the price for it. Whatever they may have agreed upon or failed to agree upon previously, the ‘Tisa’ government, which will be formed on April 12, will not allow Hungarian soldiers to be sent to Iran, just as we will not send soldiers to Chad or to any military conflict,” the politician emphasized.

Earlier, Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party “Tisza,” stated that in the event of a victory in the April 12 parliamentary elections, he plans to remove key allies of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from power, including the president and heads of judicial bodies.

As a reminder, large-scale rallies took place in Budapest on March 15 featuring Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his main opponent, Péter Magyar, leader of the “Tisza” party, marking a key stage in the campaign ahead of the April 12 parliamentary elections.

Earlier, Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar stated that Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party, together with Russian political strategists, is preparing a large-scale campaign to discredit opponents ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.

The Russian Federation has launched a large-scale disinformation campaign in Hungary aimed at strengthening the position of incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the April 12 elections.
