Lithuania is preparing for possible provocations by Russia

Lithuania is preparing for possible provocations by Russia

Lithuania is preparing additional contingency plans in case of possible provocations by Russia. The country’s Ministry of Defense reported that security at critical infrastructure facilities has already been strengthened and preparations for potential threats are underway.

According to representatives of the defense ministry, these measures are preventive in nature and aimed at strengthening national security. Lithuanian authorities continue to closely monitor the situation and are ready to respond promptly to any risks.

According to an official, due to Russia’s war against Ukraine and the increasing number of Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory, the Kremlin is showing growing desperation, which could lead to new hybrid actions.

“As a preventive measure, we are developing additional plans and possible responses to various provocations. These could include the appearance of ‘little green men,’ drone incursions, or various acts of sabotage,” Kaunas noted.

Lithuania Discussed Threats with NATO Partners

The defense minister said that Lithuania had already raised the issue of possible Russian provocations during the last meeting of NATO defense ministers. According to him, special attention is being paid to the security of the Baltic region and Poland.

He added that the allies are constantly exchanging intelligence, and security issues are also scheduled to be discussed at the summit in Ankara next week.

Lithuania Rejected Moscow’s Claims

Kaunas also commented on statements from the Russian side regarding the alleged use of the Baltic states’ airspace by Ukrainian drones. He emphasized that such accusations are unfounded.

“Russia is clearly not winning the war in Ukraine. It is becoming increasingly difficult for Vladimir Putin to explain to Russians why the war has spread to Russian territory,” said the acting defense minister.

According to him, Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory and fuel shortages indicate growing internal difficulties in Russia, which, in the opinion of the Lithuanian side, could push the Kremlin toward new provocations.

This was stated by Robertas Kaunas, Lithuania’s acting Minister of Defense, according to Delfi.

Lithuania has denounced its agreement with Belarus on a simplified travel regime.

Earlier, Lithuania reported a new airspace violation by an unidentified object.

Lithuania has called on Europe to prepare for incidents involving drones.
